GOT GAS???Got a call tonight telling me that in a town near
us the gas was $1.56!! I thought she was kidding!
Then on the tv news, at 11PM, there it was again.
I guess I better get me another can and stock up.
With holidays coming who knows it could go back up
just when I need it to be lower. The price here in
town was $1.75 so that is quite a difference. Guess
it pays to shop around.
Never did I think I would see $1.50 gas prices
again.. It is kind of scary to see them keep dropping. I know
it is nice but a real sign of hard times to come for most all
of the nation. Michigan's automakers are in real trouble
of going bankrupt. Never thought I would ever see that
either. Over 3 million jobs depend on the auto industry in
one way or another in many many states in this country.
If they go down the whole thing goes into a domino
effect and boy will this country be in trouble. Our
governor is trying desperately to get help for this
messed up industry. but it may not come.
Mom said to me today "Maybe we should have moved
to canada anyway." I told her that they have problems
too and so that wouldn't have helped any.
Makes me wonder just where the prices will end up.
Will we see I guess.

Baked banana bread and cookies yesterday as it was cold
and a great day to bake. Most of it, Sis will take to work
with her. Mom can only have a limited amount anymore.
When I check the sodium in BAKING POWDER it was pretty
high, 120 mg.per 1/4 tsp., but nothing compared to the BAKING SODA at ...
150 per 1/8 tsp. WOW.. bread is made with 2 whole teaspoons.
Add salt to that and boy you have a high count in sodium.
When I looked it up on line I was surprised to see that
both POWDER AND SODA come in SALT FREE kinds.
Now that was a shock but you can believe I am going to
investigate it. They are available at health food stores everywhere.
you learn something new every day I sure have found that out
lately.

THANKSGIVING PAST...![]() glitter-graphics.com Over 40 million people will be traveling this Thanksgiving
holiday. Whether they be by train, plane or car they will
be going someplace away from home. Some won't go far,
perhaps less than 50 miles. That is what the AAA predicts this
year. Weather plays a part in travel but I am thinking that
the economy and the gas prices play big parts too. People
are more likely to travel with the gas prices being low like
they have been lately. We know over the holidays they will
probably rise though. It always happens.
A memorable Thanksgiving for me was when I lived in
Ca. The family was gathering. It was a first for me, as I had
just moved to Ca. from Michigan. I had never seen some of
the relatives, nor they me. It was like being a stranger, only
not. They were all polite and friendly and caring. It was
truly an eye opening day. So many people and so many
conversations that you really had no idea what or who
they were talking about. I remember so much food, so many
dishes and such a large bird. It took up the entire built in
oven and had been cooking practically all night long.
A whole table full of desserts of all kinds and a room full
of chairs and tables and people who sat any place they could
find a seat. So much noise, everyone talking at once it seemed.
Kids.. kids running all over and playing in the yard. It was nice out,
the sun was shining and the air was actually warm to me. So different
from the cold snowy days in Michigan in November. It was great
to sit back and observe everyone and the real "family" dynamic. ![]() Up until then I had spent all my Thanksgiving dinners around a table
with only my parents and my sister and brother. NO kids, no relatives,
as the closest ones were over 500 miles away. It was almost always cold
and or snowy and quiet, as after lunch we would take a nap. Dad was not
into sports and we didn't watch much tv. California was totally opposite.
This gathering was normal for them, but not for me.
It was special for me, like a family reunion.
Learning names and who went with who, I wished I had name tags as
they got all jumbled up in my head. My grandmother, who I had not been
around any in my life, took me aside and reassured me .."don't you worry
none, you 'll get used to them all." I have to say I did, but it took a long time.
Grandma is gone now and so are many of the aunts, uncles, and cousins that brought
the whole clan together. Today they go off to separate places and don't really
gather like they used to in the "old days".
For some, the "gathering" for dinner at a relatives is normal.
For me it will be a memory that I will never forget.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE THANKSGIVING MEMORY???
HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!
LONG DAY..First real snow of the winter here.
Monday I spent 3 hours in a clinic with Mom trying to get to the bottom
of her coughing situation. We sat well away from others and those
who actually "Looked and sounded sick".
how maybe they should have a well side and a sick side to their
very large building.
The doctor asked me if she had any
allergies. She never did before so why now?? They didnt think it
was a cold, but not sure just what was going on. She took one
look at her and listened to her chest and decided to take X rays
just to make sure. Between Dr. calls and office visits and trips
to the pharmacy it had been long day. The specialist did get my
message about the high priced Vitamins and the nurse said she
would call something in for her. When I checked the pharmacy
picking up other things. nothing had been sent in. So much for
their attempts to keep up with their promises. Right now Mom
could care less.

It snowed a lot in Michigan on Monday. Some cities got 5 inches
or more.I sure was glad we were not one of them. There was a lot of
road closures and black ice and many accidents. One of those days
you thank your lucky stars you don't have to drive out on them.
Gas dropped again down to 1.89 here in town, we got word that it
was lower in neighboring towns.

I leave you with a picture I took on Sunday of a lady greeter in
a Meijer store in another city. She sure got a lot of smiles and
laughs at her beautiful balloon hat!! Boy that turkey has a long
neck. She says it will last quite awhile.
HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT DAY!! DID YOU KNOW???BLACK SQUIRRELS are very common and I am surprised
that so many of you have never even seen one. They are of a
class of gray squirrels and are mostly found in the northern
parts of the U.S. but some have been seen as far away as
California. They are very common in England. They are the
official mascot of Kent State University in Ohio.
I see more Black squirrels here than I do any other color.
They keep the shiny black coat all year around. When they age
they get gray hair on their faces and tails very much like
that of dogs when they age. Sometimes you have to look
twice to make sure it is not a baby SKUNK you are looking
at. Been there and done that, very relieved it was a squirrel too!

CHRISTMAS IS ONLY 38 DAYS AWAY
Stores are ramping up big time by putting on bigger discounts than
ever before to get customers to shop. President Elect Obama stated
that one of his first priorites is to get a stimulous package to the
American people to help our economy.( If it didnt work that well
before, does he really think it will again?) I welcome the money
though.. it will come just in time to cash in on the after Christmas
bills and sales. Most people will have the money earmarked for certain
things way ahead of time. They did before and will again. Sometimes
the best plans fall flat and fail to achieve the goals of the so called
experts.
##############################################################
DID YOU KNOW??????.......
THERE ARE OVER 500,000 PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD TO EVACUATE
THEIR HOMES IN CALIFORNIA DUE TO THE FIRES.
THERE ARE 1250 HOMES DESTROYED SO FAR AND THE NUMBER IS
RISING.
THERE ARE PEOPLE IN TEXAS LIVING IN CARS AND TENTS STILL
FROM HURRICANE IKE'S DESTRUCTION. OVER 200 ARE STILL MISSING.
#################################################################
All this sounds so depressing for us to hear but it is true. Guess we should
keep praying for the country and for those who are devistated and
suffering. I am sure they can use it.

HAVE A GREAT DAY!! ![]() glitter-graphics.com SKIPPYOver the months I have watched squirrels run
up the trees, and scamper all over my yard and porch. Tuesday
one acted strangely. The neighbors have been feeding the birds and
squirrels all summer long. NEVER have any of them come
right up to ME. They mostly are leery of people. "Skippy"
is not afraid of people and will stand his ground with the many
cats in this neighborhood. I have watched many confrontations.
So the other day, one ran up to me in the yard and sat and looked at
me. I had no idea what he wanted. When I turned to
leave he ran up behind me. I stopped and he stopped. It was
quite comical. I started up our wheelchair ramp and darn if
he didn't follow me up it.
camera. There he sat waiting for me. I took a picture or two
and he sat there like he was posing. I went back inside to get
some treats and he waited patiently for me to come back to
him. I am thinking that the neighbors have him trained to come
right up to them and get meals! I am surely going to ask them.
What better way to get your meals in the wintertime than
just go right up to a person and get the food? There are a lot of
black squirrels around here but none have come close EXCEPT
for SKIPPY! That's what I named him.
I wonder what the neighbors call him? IS it really
a HIM? I really don't know. That's for me to find out I guess. LOL
Will save my left overs for the winter, now that we have met formally.
Will let you know if I find out!
HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT DAY!!
